Author Biography

  • Joela Jacobs

    Joela Jacobs is Assistant Professor of German Studies at the University of Arizona, where she is affiliated with the Institute of the Environment, the Department of Gender and Women's Studies, and the Arizona Center for Judaic Studies. Her research focuses on intersections of nineteenth to twenty-first century German literature and film with Animal Studies, Environmental Humanities, Jewish Studies, the History of Sexuality, and the History of Science. She has published articles and edited special issues on topics such as animal narratology and epistemology, biopolitics, critical plant studies, cultural environmentalism, contemporary German Jewish identity, literary censorship, monstrosity, multilingualism, and zoopoetics. Currently, she is working on a monograph that examines a preoccupation with non-human forms of life, such as animals and plants, in the German modernist micro-genre of the Literary Grotesque (die Groteske), and she facilitates the Literary and Cultural Plant Studies Network (https://plants.sites.arizona.edu/).
