Abstract

Adopting a sociopoetical perspective, this article proposes to question the contemporary variations of the self-portrait and their effects in the literary field on the basis of a comparative study between Que font les rennes après Noël ? (2010) by Olivia Rosenthal and Croire aux fauves (2019) by Nastassja Martin. In addition to being published by the same publisher (Verticales), these two texts combine differently the characteristics of two genres often described as antagonistic, the autobiography and the self-portrait. They stand out even more by their questioning of animal otherness, resulting in forms of hybridization with multiple challenges.
